How quality of instruction impacts the learning environmnent

Knowledge about the way children learn, understanding what makes an effective teacher, and classroom management has increased considerably over the past decades. Schools and teachers can dramatically influence the extent and quality of learning for all students. The emphasis must be on success, rather than on failings and shortcomings. To make this possible, a learning environment needs to be created in which all children feel safe and understood, and can reach their potential.
It is obvious that not all children learn at the same pace or in the same way. Schools and teachers may have to consider the extent to which education policies and practices lead to the labeling of children or to promoting the view that learning capacities are either limited or fixed. Teachers must take into account and respond to individual differences in development and learning needs in each classroom. Effective teachers are classroom managers who address the needs of children both in terms of what they teach and how they teach. To an effective teacher, learning is very individual. Effective teachers are sensitive to differences and take actions to accommodate students so that, ideally, each child is provided an optimal learning experience.

Welcome!

Welcome to our classroom blog! I teach in Albany, Ga at Lamar Reese Magnet School of the Fine Arts. There are 27 students in my class. 15 girls and 12 boys. We are half way through the school year! WOW...time goes by fast! Many of the second grade skills have already been taught. Now it is time to preparing for state testing. Many of the things that will be posted are ideas that I am implementing to help my students prepare for their test. Your ideas are helpful as well so feel free to comment!
